All about Antares 8 Ib version
Originally designed as inboard boats by André Bénéteau back in 1970, the Antarès range of small pilothouse boats with semi-planing hulls has recently gone outboard.
You would expect these liveable powerboats to be fitted with relatively silent, undisputedly autonomous diesel inboard engines, especially since inboard engines are the only easy way to get hot water on board when cruising; this being the main aim of the Antarès 8 IB.
Two Bénéteau models are known as Antarès 8. A 1990 version, followed by a second version in 2006 (8.36m long by 2.95m wide) both diesel-powered providing maximum power of 200hp and maximum speeds of 20 to 23 knots for the 2006 version.
One of the big advantages of diesel engines is their durability and significantly lower hourly fuel consumption compared to outboard engines, enabling you to travel at greater speeds.
In terms of on-board accommodation, the huge cockpit includes a saloon that converts into a berth, a sun deck (2006 version), a double cabin, and a bathroom with WC (and a shower on the 2006 version).
At 8m in length, the Antarès 8 IB is a powerful speedboat. Its deep hull and laden weight of over 3 tonnes enable it to cruise through rough seas, providing the possibility to go out in all conditions or simply head back home when the weather takes a turn for the worse. Add high levels of autonomy to the mix, and you have the archetypal coastal cruiser.
