All about Oceanis 323 model
The successor to the Beneteau Oceanis 311, which shared its hull with the Figaro 1, First 301 and First 31.7, the Beneteau Oceanis 323 was to be a breakthrough in terms of interior habitability. Her predecessor, with its very successful hull (2,700 units built across the 3 different models) was not strictly speaking a "comfortable" yacht in the 2003 sense. Beneteau thus commissioned Finot-Conq to build a yacht that was more comfortable at the helm, on deck and inside! This was the Beneteau Oceanis 323.
With a length of 9.75 m, a width of 3.23 m and a weight of 3,837 kg, this sloop has a sail area of 50 m2 upwind and a 21 HP diesel engine. Helm comfort was fundamental so they did research into typical sitting and standing helm positions.
To make the deck more comfortable, all the controls were moved to the roof and closer to the crew, the stern and cockpit were widened and a clever swivel wheel was installed to free up circulation through the middle of the cockpit.
The results were most spectacular inside, with 2,00 m of standing headroom, an almost gigantic shower room for a boat of this type, and a comfortable chart table. What is the winning recipe? A two-storey roof which, though increasing the dunnage, totally transforms the interior space in this 31 footer.
A windscreen introduces extra light into the interior. 3 draughts were listed in the catalogue: PTE, GTE and a lifting keel version with successively 2,0m, 1,60 m and 0,60 m draughts.
