All about Oceanis 38 model
Launched in 2013 by Beneteau, the world's leading yacht and powerboat builder, the Beneteau Oceanis 38 addresses the core demand for cruising yachts. With a hull length of 11.13 m, a beam of 3.99 m and a weight of 7,000 kg, this is a typical cruising yacht. Sloop-rigged with 66 m2 of sail area upwind, it has a (light?) diesel saildrive of 20 HP and also 30 HP as an option.
Designed by the architects Finot-Conq, the Beneteau Oceanis 38 has several strings to its bow.
When fitted with a roll bar, the profile of the Oceanis 38 is a little surprising, but it completely clears the large cockpit of any mainsail traveller.
If there is an external advantage to this boat, it is the very large cockpit, which easily accommodates 6 passengers.
Because the 2 and 3 cabin versions come with a bathroom. The "day sailer" version does not have a rear cabin.
Inside, another advantage is that the front cabin has a double door that can be left open, like a Breton bed, which considerably enlarges the cabin space for a "penthouse" effect.
There was a minor evolution to the boat in 2016, which is where you get the Beneteau Oceanis 38.1 from.
This included a slightly reworked aft freeboard, a 3-cabin layout with two heads for chartering (Sunsail/Moorings has used them) but the main change is that the mainsheet hoist has been moved to the roof instead of the cockpit, thus doing away with this strange hoop.
