All about Ombrine range
Before becoming the leader in the pleasure boating industry, Bénéteau was a modest shipyard that built wooden fishing boats. In the mid-1960s, the decline in activity pushed the owner's children, André and Annette, to venture into polyester, and particularly fishing-cruising boats. This resulted in the emergence of the first Ombrine, a 5.80m-long speedboat with an elegant design and characteristic shapes!
This first model was initially sold in wood. Although modest in size, at the time the Ombrine was the flagship of the "pleasure boat" range. The tulip-shaped (flared) bow looked wonderful on the water and deflected spray well. A stern low on the water (with inward planking) resulted in a flattering tapered aft end, all while remaining buoyant.
The Ombrine: a recognisable silhouette that has left its mark!
While the brand's sailboats enjoyed much success, in 1996 André Bénéteau decided to update the Ombrine by designing a range of boats with the same qualities as the first model. From understated lines to a classic design highlighted by wooden outfitting, the new range of Ombrine boats have many captivating characteristics. For example, the Ombrine 700 is powered by a Z-drive base, but is diesel-powered in order to preserve reliability and fuel consumption.
There are 9 Ombrine models ranging from 5m to 10.15m offering speed, reliability and seaworthiness. The Ombrine line has stood the test of time and their fittings create a welcome "yachting" feel when bought second hand, which is particularly the case aboard the Ombrine 800.
Ombrine: find your future boats
The range of boats centralizes models with similar characteristics, both in their design and in their use. A boat builder can have a range dedicated to racing-cruising yachts and another specializing in small outboard motor boats. The ranges of boats may need to evolve to better meet the expectations of boaters. Thus, certain ranges are disappearing to make way for new generations of boats.
Choosing your boat model from the range
Buying a new or used boat requires taking stock of your expectations as a future boat owner Here are the main questions to ask:
- What is my maximum budget for buying a boat?
- Do I have a berth available?
- What is my boater profile?
