Benetti, yachts for the "greats of this world"! While the name of the manufacturer isn't well-known, the image of Benetti yachts certainly is!
The portrait of Prince Rainier with Grace Kelly in the bay of Monte Carlo, the images of Sean Connery as James Bond in "Never Say Never Again", and even the words of Queen in the song "Khashoggi's ship"... Everything conspires to familiarise us with the look of these exceptional boats. The Benetti shipyard is the result of 2 of the oldest Italian shipbuilders: Fratelli Orlando of Livorno, founded in 1866 and Fratelli Benetti, founded in 1873 in Viareggio, a few kilometres further north. The former built over 100 super sailing yachts, while the latter launched many of the Italian Navy's warships. It was here, in 1896, that the Lumière brothers filmed the launch of the Varese, a first in the history of cinema!
After the Second World War, Benetti built wooden motor yachts, some of which were converted into passenger boats and continue to sail on excursions every day, despite being 70 years old! In 1961, wood was replaced by steel and the creations came one after another, exceeding the imaginations of the shipyard's prestigious clientele. In 1985, after 111 years of family management, the shipyard passed into the hands of the Azimut Group but continues to set the bar in terms of exceptional motor yachts. As a side note, the smallest model in the current catalogue is the Delfino 95, at 29m long!
