All about Conam brand
The Conam shipyard was established in Pozzuoli, a suburb of Naples, in 1980. The Neapolitan region has been a land of active shipyards since ancient times and is full of these independent family shipyards. Initially active in the construction of motorboats, Conam then expanded into the construction of motoryachts of up to 24 m in size. All made of fibreglass and with in-house fittings, Conam yachts also benefited from an early partnership with the engine manufacturer Volvo Penta when it came to assembling its IPS range. These gearbox systems, on steerable pods and forward-mounted propellers, underwent significant development in view of the considerable manoeuvring capabilities they offered to ships fitted with them.
Conam joined the Rodriquez Group in 2002 to provide the latter with immediate access to the construction of what were then large yachts. They are particularly well known for their Widebody models, which were particularly innovative for their time in terms of interior habitability. On these boats, the shipyard had simply removed the outside gangways and integrated them into the living area.
This clever scheme gave the CONAM Widebody 60 and CONAM Widebody 75 a similar living space to that of a much larger yacht. Also active in the Express Cruiser range, Conam developed the Conam 46 at the end of the 90s, which was an elegant 2-cabin motorboat with a powerful 1000 HP engine. Capable of getting to each of the Riviera's ports in a single night, this boat was one of Conam's last successful boats at the brand disappeared after its incorporation into the Rodriguez Group.
