All about Formula brand
The Formula shipyard was founded in Decatur, Indiana, USA, in 1962.
Specialising in small fast dayboats, it was bought after releasing a number of successful models by Vic Porter, the owner of Thunderbird.
From the Formula 233 of the 1960s to the Thunderbird Iroquois from the Flipper the Dolphin series, the Formula shipyard has built up a solid reputation as a premium powerboat manufacturer.
But the history of Formula and Thunderbird is also a grand and long-standing family history.
Vic Porter, the founder, is now assisted by 5 of his 6 children who help run the Thunderbird and Formula business with him.
Of his 17 grandchildren, 6 are already working in the group.
But the story doesn't end there, and among Vic Porter's 17 great-grandchildren, several have already signed on at the shipyard for their summer jobs! So much family involvement in a company's business certainly protects it from any radical or regrettable decisions!
The Formula range includes bowrider, sport fishing and express cruisers.
All these boats are available with outboard and inboard engines.
In France, Formula's Express Cruisers were a real success.
The 1991 Formula 34 PC is a two-cabin cruiser whose design has hardly aged at all.
The Sun Sport series is full of incredible open boats with attractive lines, of which the 2006 Formula Sun Sport 310 is an excellent example.
With its two 6.2L V8 petrol engines, each with 320 HP, it is hardly lacking in sportiness nor an impressive sound!
