The Sun Odyssey 39 was designed by Jacques Fauroux and built between 1990 and 1994 by the Jeanneau shipyard in Herbiers (Vendée, France). It prefigured the long line of 39-foot boats that came after it, namely the DS and i models. This boat won hearts and minds, so much so that 30 years after its launch, Jeanneau wrote that if there was only one Sun Odyssey to remember, it would be the 39!
The first version of the Sun Odyssey 39 was well oversized! The hand-laminated hull was reinforced with Kevlar and the accommodation bulkheads were integrated into the structure. Every last detail inspires confidence, from the stainless steel chainplates used on the floors and the rudder stock in solid stainless steel, to the teak cabinetry. The boat was produced in 3 types of ballast for 2 draughts: 1.95m with lead or pig-iron ballast, and 1.52m with a pig-iron wing-keel. The slender hull combined with a generous sail plan proves very balanced and smooth at sea. The deck layout is streamlined, making it easy to move around on board thanks to its classic lines, barrel roof and open cockpit. Manoeuvres are controlled at the cockpit and access to the skirt is easy and comfortable.
The interior of the Sun Odyssey 39 is finished in teak creating a classic feel, while the hull portholes and hatches make it as enjoyable to relax in as it is to sail.
