Replacing the Sun Odyssey 39 which came out in 2011, the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 409 is a sports cruiser, designed to be sailed by a reduced crew.
Over 300 units were released and it was crowned European Yacht of The Year 2011, so it clearly has more than one ace up its sleeve.
With very little on-deck clutter (lines from the mast foot are protected) and at 12.34 m long and 3.99 m wide, the Sun Odyssey 409 usually stands out instantly from its fellows at the quay. You can't say that it lacks style with its chines, clean lines and its flush hull portholes.
The two steering wheels create a large volume in the middle of the cockpit. The skipper really has the controls right in their hand at the helm. In fact, the German-style mainsail control has a strand leading back on each tack and you can thus keep a sheet (mainsail or genoa) on one of the two large aft winches within reach of the helmsman.
The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 409 is available in a GTE (2.10 m draft) and PTE (1.55 m draft) version.
Inside, everything is full of light because the hull portholes are doing their job. There's a Corian worktop in the galley, light laminated woodwork, and a classic layout with 2 or 3 cabins and 2 shower rooms. All the lights are LEDs, which is good for the electric battery life when there's no solar panels. The large 40 HP Yanmar engine on a shaft line is perfect for driving all 10 tons of load.
