All about Sun Odyssey 45.2 model
With a length of 14 m and a beam of 4.80 m, as well as a laden weight of 14 tonnes, the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.2 is one of the largest monohulls around.
It's not just the dimensions that are sensational about this yacht that was launched in 1999 as the direct successor to the Sun Odyssey 45.1, whose hull it inherited. Just one glance at the quality of the interior fittings (solid teak), which are only found on units destined for the luxury market these days, is sure to impress. Teak woodwork on this level is stunning, but it is also solid and durable. Let's not forget that Jeanneau has always had strong ties with the charter industry, for whom sustainability is gospel!
Two interior layouts were available from Jeanneau, depending on whether this yacht was intended for an owner (main cabin with island bed forward and two aft cabins, plus 2 shower rooms) or for a charter company with 4 cabins and 3 shower rooms.
There's a long galley on port side and saloon (including a very nice helm) on starboard. On the starboard too there's a spacious and well-designed genuine chart table, because in those days we weren't sailing by iPad and only in good weather... Who could complain of having proper navigational space?
On the draught side, there's a GTE version (2.0 m), which is the most common, and a PTE version, which is 1.69 m deep.
Outside the cockpit is really spacious, with 6 adults having plenty of room to move around. The two wheel bars do actually free up enough space in the centre.
Featuring a sloop rig with a furling mainsail or optionally semi-battened on lazy-jack and lazy-bag and furling genoa, the 3 tons of ballast enable the Sun Odyssey 45.2 to perform well upwind, as far as the limits of a liveaboard keelboat go.
