All about Koopmans brand

Dick Koopmans started building boats back in 1961. He worked alone and made motor cruisers that he designed himself. Passionate about sailing, he began designing sailboats too. His customers jokingly say that he learned the trade by helping his father, a funeral director, to make coffins!

In 1985, the Koopmans Yachjtontwerpers company really took off when Dick Koopmans Jnr finished his studies and went to work with his father. This passionate sailor took part in several races such as the Ostar, the Fastnet and the Tour of England and Ireland. The son racked up over 150,000 miles on the log, while Dick Snr and his wife went sailing in Patagonia, Antarctica and the Pacific for several years aboard the Jantine iV and V, that he designed. The Koopmans family design boats for connoisseurs!

All of this to say that this father and son team know what they're talking about; you are in supremely safe hands when commissioning them to design your future boat. These renowned architects already have a superb collection of plans at their fingertips and work with several shipyards, that they can recommend to anyone looking to make the move from 2D to 3D. All materials are possible, with a clear preference for metal, steel and aluminium, a speciality of the Dutch shipyards. The Koopmans also offer their boats in kit form. A digital cutting table produces each piece for all types of the material, which the amateur builder or shipyard not equipped with the material in questions simply has to assemble.
