Terhi, tradition that comes in a series!
Founded in 1962, the Finnish brand Terhi initially built outboard motors, then moved onto canoes. Their new factory was inaugurated in 1972. It was built to produce Terhi boats and, after making 250,000 units, has since become the largest Scandinavian shipyard as far as the number of hulls goes.
Terhi boats combine the characteristics of fast boats with the features of local fishing canoes. It's a double skillset that is easily explained if you take the trouble to look for Rymättylä on a satellite map, because the fishing village where the construction site is located lies in a region of land and water, lakes and inlets which is where Terhi's designers drew their inspiration.
Their catalogue is extensive with many models ranging from 2.35 to 4.80 m, from rigid tenders to the 480 BR, a centre console family cruiser, not to mention the 6020 Nordic. The success of Terhi boats is largely due to their thermo-moulded construction method. This involves large ABS plates which are stamped into shape at 200°C. There is one mould for the hull and another for the interior. The 2 forms are then assembled using polyurethane foam injected at a very high pressure, which makes the boat rigid and non-submersible.
This mass production process keeps prices low, but without compromising on quality and enjoyment. The boats are fitted with chests, lockers and handy features during the moulding process that make life easy, just like the moulded hulls that deflect spray well.
