In the 1930s, naval architect Ricus Van de Stadt developed his first sailboat commissioned by a local carpenter who had just developed a new form of plywood. This innovative material had all the qualities required for use in mass-produced shipbuilding: Valk was a great success. Ninety years later, these boats can still be seen on the water.
