All about Centurion 40 S version
Among the most highly regarded production yachts, the Wauquiez Centurion 40S deserves its reputation. Built by the Wauquiez shipyard, whose founder had such a passion for sailing that he transformed the family business into a shipyard, the Wauquiez Centurion 40S are wonderfully executed pure cruising yachts. In terms of its materials, fittings and carpentry, Wauquiez's approach is more manufacturing than industrial.
Competitors of the Amel Santorin Sloop, they share the latter's solid and careful construction and a multitude of marine details, thanks to the experience of the sailors who designed them.
The Centurion 40 S, designed by the French architects Jean Berret and Olivier Racoupeau, was a modern boat when it was launched. It's a pure cruiser-racer, far removed from the concept of a floating caravan – rather like an athlete slipping into a comfortable outfit.
From the racer, it has inherited the double mainsheet, the perfect positions of the good-sized winches, the ubiquitous lifelines and solid, well-placed side-boards, the halyard storage bag close to the companionway, the perfect foot braces for helmsmen of all sizes and an empty weight of 7.6 tonnes for a 12.2m (40ft) length.
From the world of cruising, it has a cupboard for wet oilskins, a fine chart table, a functional galley with keel-cooler (a very durable external cooling system) fridge and freezer, two double cabins (only two, the killjoys will say!) and a shower room.
