Port Grimaud is a small town typical of the Var region. Nicknamed "the Venice of Provence", this lake city certainly isn't short on charm. Formerly an unwholesome marshland, Port Grimaud was transformed into a lake city by François Spoerry from 1966 onwards. It took three years to create this Provencal Venice from his plans. The building work on this lake city was only considered as completed from the early 2000s. Since 2001, Port Grimaud has been a "20th Century Heritage" site. It contains 2,400 houses, 7km of canals and two islands. You can dock your rental boat directly in the town of Port Grimaud so why not use it to get around as well?
