All about First 285 model
The First 285 enters the modern era!
The First 285 is the work of the Finot Group. The architect used computers to help him design it, which was a first at the time. The result is a fast family cruiser that is particularly large for its size. The brief was to create a fast, modern and comfortable boat in a hull of only 8.77 metres.
The First 285 comes in several different draughts: deep keel, double-keel dinghy and most notably a fin keel which suits this boat well and makes it much more agile while reducing the draught to 1.20 metres. From the moment it was launched in 1986, the boat was a great success, with 451 units produced. The boat is lively and its low wetted surface area enables it to cruise well in slight breezes.
All the manoeuvres take place in the cockpit, which at the time was not yet the norm. The transom has a small skirt, and the cockpit is fairly shallow to allow for the volume of the aft cabin below. On the other hand, the seats on the benches or coamings are particularly comfortable.
The interior of the First 285 also benefits from the modernity which really enhances these boats, making them brighter, bigger and more pleasant than their predecessors. Here we have 2 real double cabins with good lighting, a good-sized saloon and a toilet. It also had great performance at the time for a boat of this size!
