All about Comar brand
Very often the spectacular development of certain shipyards is down to a single model, that goes far beyond a bestseller and represents a real jackpot for that yard... Created in 1961 in Sipla, a stone's throw from Ravenna and Rimini, the Comar shipyard initially focused on the construction of small racing yachts.
Towards the end of the 1970's, and in parallel with the growth of yachting in Italy, the shipyard began research for a small fast cruiser, the Sipla 910. The Comar 910 was conjointly designed by the young architect Finot and Colmar's long-time architect, Van de Stadt. During the 1971 Middle Sea Race, it is said that the two architects went up to the race committee and each blamed the boat's design on the other, because their boat was so above the lines when it hit the water!
Fate decided otherwise and the Comar 910 won the race streaks ahead of much more powerful yachts... During its 15-year career, the Comar 910 (the company changed its name) produced no less than 1000 units. The collaboration with JM Finot was then well underway and new boats were being released all the time. These were the Comet 11, 13, 14, and Comar was to become the biggest sailboat builder in Italy. The range continues to grow, with the very successful Comet 38 and Comet 41 S. Comar's current offer is based on 3 ranges, the Smart -up to 30 feet-, the Sport -up to 45 feet- and the Raised Saloon, and real Maxis that can reach up to 100'!
