All about Contest Yachts brand
Dutch boat maker Contest Yachts has been building what could be described as its 'semi-custom' yachts in Medemblik on Lake IJssel in the Netherlands since the 1960s. Contest has over the years focused its efforts on ocean cruising yachts and currently produces a range of boats varying from 42 to 85 feet in length.
All Contest yachts are centre cockpit models. It's worth bearing in mind that this approach to deck layout creates a kind of huge 'bathtub' that forms the cockpit, which is where the crew man the boat from, and offers the advantage of providing a maximum level of protection in bad weather.
The interior of the boat houses a large aft cabin that takes up the entire width of the hull. This is where the master suite is located, or perhaps we should say 'captain's suite' in the case of the longest models, which approach almost 90 feet in length.
The onboard design and layout of Contest yachts is now based on a semi-customisable approach, with all kinds of possibilities available and nothing imposed. A simply endless range of fine materials and exotic wood finishes is available to choose from. The very high-quality carpentry and cabinet-making work is carried out entirely on site, with Contest one of the first boat makers to use the technique of infusing its hulls with resin under vacuum.
In the early 2010s, the company introduced a new range of motor yachts, the Contest 52MCs,
which are based on a semi-planing hull design. With their wide bows and extensively elongated foredecks, they have something of a classic look about them. These yachts come in Flybridge, Open, T-Top and Sedan versions and feature engines ranging in power from 700 to 900 HP, enabling speeds of up to 28 knots.
Contest Yachts builds all its boats in compliance with Lloyd's certification standards, which exceed the requirements of all the mandatory boat building certification systems.
