What is a commercial boat?
The characteristics of a commercial boat
They can be distinguished according to several categories including:
- Cargo ships: so called for "cargo", they are cargo boats. They are classified according to what they are carrying, whether dry or liquid. We find, for example, bulk carriers (which transport grain, ore or oil), bitumers (which transport cargoes at a temperature of up to 250°) or LNG carriers (transporting methane);
- service vessels and specialized vessels: the role of these vessels is to provide a service to other vessels or to human activity, e.g. cable ships or tugs;
- passenger ships: ferries or cruise ships, these ships are intended to take passengers from point A to point B;
- fishing boats: intended for fishing activity, boats from this category have a name depending on their practice, the type of fish caught or the technique used (e.g. example, we will find the shrimp boat, the purse seine net (which is the name of a fillet or the tuna).
This category of boat is popular with sailors because they have a large draft, which gives them rock-solid stability and makes them faster. They are therefore suitable for many activities, which will suit most future buyers.
What are the different types of commercial boats?
On Band of Boats you will find many used commercial boats among, mainly, 2 types of boats:
- the fishing trawler: this is the most widely used fishing boat today. Its name comes from the trawl, the net used when fishing. Several types of fishing trawlers exist and their size can range from 6 meters to over 50 meters;
- the barge: it is a flat-bottomed boat, usually without an engine and used in shallow water. The barges are pushed in convoys by a specialized boat, the pusher, and are used for the supply of goods, food, fresh water, ...
Is the barge or fishing trawler the boat of your dreams? Let yourself be seduced by a used commercial boat from our listings on Band of Boats and set-off to navigate the waves.
