All about Harmony range
Located in Marans, at the gateway to the Marais Poitevin wetland and just a stone's throw from La Rochelle, Poncin Yachts has set up the ideal location to produce its range of Harmony sailing yachts. One hectare of workshop, a closed mould construction method, and a selection of attractive boats ranging from 31 to 52 feet... Everything seemed made for success. Unfortunately, the Harmony range, launched in 2003, was discontinued in 2008, following a series of financial and fiscal problems. The Poncin group nevertheless remained at the helm of the Marans factory, which now builds Bali catamarans under the Catana banner. Harmony, a full-featured range that is not well-known.
The boats from the Harmony range were designed by the duo Alain Mortain & Iannis Mavrikios. They were built using the infusion technique, a method not widely used on production boats at the time, but which has many advantages. Schematically, it means placing the fabrics and reinforcement in a mould, covering them with a film, creating a vacuum between the two and injecting the resin which then fills all the gaps exactly, without any excesses or gaps. As well as getting the right balance between resin and fabric, this process is very environmentally friendly because the emissions are easy to capture and process. Even though they are not well-known, the boats from the Harmony range are recognised for being pleasant, seaworthy and without any major defects.
The Harmony 38s especially have received very good feedback from their owners. The only reservation frequently expressed is the treatment on the interior finishes, which is considered a little too impersonal.
Harmony: find your future boats
The range of boats centralizes models with similar characteristics, both in their design and in their use. A boat builder can have a range dedicated to racing-cruising yachts and another specializing in small outboard motor boats. The ranges of boats may need to evolve to better meet the expectations of boaters. Thus, certain ranges are disappearing to make way for new generations of boats.
Choosing your boat model from the range
Buying a new or used boat requires taking stock of your expectations as a future boat owner Here are the main questions to ask:
- What is my maximum budget for buying a boat?
- Do I have a berth available?
- What is my boater profile?
