All about Dalla Pieta brand
The story of the Dalla Pietà shipyard began in 1949 in Venice, where the young Bepi Dalla Pietà built his first boat. In 1959, the shipyard was created on the island of Guidecca, in the lagoon south of Venice. At that time, the Dalla Pietà shipyard was building 4–7m (13–23ft) plywood speedboats on a mahogany frame. This construction method made it possible to create rigid and light hulls and to produce fairly large series.
The Rio, Laguna and other Ionio models created a new type of pleasure boat – a fun way to sail. Meanwhile, the brand also tried its hand at motorboats, where it met with great success, particularly in 1967, with the novel shape of the Manta hull. In the 1970s, the yard had to move to Marghera for logistical reasons. The extra space made it possible to build hulls of up to 14m (46ft), most of them in very deep Vs. Dalla Pieta: Italian know-how, from wood to polyester!
The takeover of the shipyard by Gianni and Giorgio, the founder's sons, gave new impetus to the company, and the shipyard had to move again, this time to a 30,000m² (7.4 acre) yard, where the brand built its first polyester-hulled boats. The techniques and expertise gained from woodworking remained important, however.
Some models, such as the Altair 28 and 37 and the Asterion 52, become iconic. In 2002, the yard was bought out and a good part of the production was subcontracted. It was declared bankrupt in 2009, and the brand was bought by a Chinese investor.
