Pietarsaari, Finland, saw the birth of Nautor when the foundations for the company were laid by Pekka Koskenkyla in 1966. It took a lot of enthusiasm for this passionate cruiser-racer to imagine setting up his future shipyard on the eastern shore of the Gulf of Bothnia, where temperatures routinely drop below -30°C and where the sea remains frozen for 4 to 5 months!
Having studied in the United States, Pekka managed to convince Sparkman & Stephens, one of the most renowned naval architecture firms of the time, to design his first boat. Designed from polyester clad in wood, the Swan 36 was innovative because, as well as being constructed from this new material it had a rudder and aileron positioned aft and away from the keel.
The first Swan ever to be built made such an impression in the English races and at Cowes Week especially, that the yard's reputation was quickly established. Many other models followed over the decades, with such prestigious names as Hélisara II to the Herbert Von Karajan and Sayula II, which won the first round-the-world race, the Whitbread in 1973/74.

Nautor is proud of its prestigious history, while ever looking to the present and the future! The 2021 catalogue includes some sublime super yachts such as the Swan 120. They rub shoulders with the Swan Shadow, the first power yacht in the shipyard's history.
