Remarks :

This Maurice Griffiths creation boasts a long keel for stability and a shallow draft for easy navigation in coastal waters. The spacious cockpit with wheel steering offers comfortable command of the vessel, while the well-appointed interior provides sleeping accommodation for up to five. Although the design originated in the 1970s and 80s, the Barbican is a comfortable cruiser even by today's standards and is a timeless design built for solid cruising.

Accommodation :

The Barbican 33 offers a spacious and well-appointed interior for its size, accommodating up to five guests in two comfortable cabins. The forward cabin offers an off-centre double with under berth storage. Seating area to starboard and with two portholes and opening deck hatch the forward cabin feels light and airy.

As you move aft, you'll find a hanging storage locker to starboard, and the heads compartment to port. This private space features a vanity unit with single stainless-steel sink, mirror, pressurized hot and cold water with shower attachment, integrated shower tray and marine toilet. Hot water is supplied by a Califire water heater.

The inviting saloon consists of an L shaped dinette seating area, on the port side, central saloon table and single settee berth opposite. The Saloon offers under seating storage, with additional storage above. With six portholes this Saloon is not lacking from natural light. Moving aft to port, offers a large forward facing chart table. The table offers storage underneath for several charts. Also, in this area is navigational Instrumentation and the electrical distribution panel. Located behind the chart table is a quarter berth, with under berth storage and shelfing along the port side. 

The galley is to starboard with ample work surface and storage. It has a 2-burner gas cooker with grill and oven, fridge, and a double stainless-steel sink with pressurised hot and cold water.

Stepping out of the companionway, you'll be greeted by a large aft cockpit, particularly impressive for a boat of this size, with bench seating surrounding the wheel steering colum with Compass, Depth gauge, Wind direction and speed log, and engine controls at the rear of the vessel.

History and Construction:

This Barbican 33 was Built in 1994 and has a white GRP hull, superstructure, and decks with non-slip surfaces, encapsulated long keel, keel hung rudder and wheel steering. She has a teak seating with GRP deck in the aft cockpit area, Stainless steel stanchions, pulpit, and Self-draining cockpit. This boat was last out of the water in 2023 to replace the anodes and polish her hull.

Sails and Spars

This Barbican has a masthead sloop rig, with a deck stepped Sailspar aluminium mast and boom, held in place by stainless steel standing rigging. The vessel has a furling headsail and a slab reefing mainsail, with lazyjacks, adjustable backstay, and kicker. The age of the standing and running rigging is unknown.

Mechanical Systems

This vessel has a single 30hp, 3-cylinder Lister diesel engine, powering a shaft-driven 3-bladed fixed propeller. The engine has been maintained by the owner, and last received an oil change and lift pump in 2023, some service history is available. This engine has completed 2800hrs. The Lister engine is supplied by a 117-litre capacity plastic fuel tank with Morse controls. This yacht will cruise at approximately 5 knots and has an approximate maximum speed of 7 knots. This Barbican also benefits from a bow thruster ( not currently working)


Electrical Systems

4 x 12-volt 110Ah batteries, (1 x engine + 1 x Domestic, 1 x bow thruster 1 x anchor winch batteries) all new in 2021 charging from the alternator, solar panel, wind generator and via 240v shore power system with ring main.
